Littering Affects Both Humans And Animals! Who Is Responsible?

In an urban area, this is, of course, a major problem in spite of taking numbers of initiatives towards reducing pollution. But, it has been seen that this issue is becoming more serious day by day. Every minute, pollution is killing someone or the other, some struggling with the various disease, and others don’t even realize the moment he/she commits the crime by littering the environment.

The life of the animals is miserable in the so-called human world, they suffer through end number of issues. Most of the time crows, cows, and stray dogs are seen to contest to grab the larger share of stale food and shopkeepers throwing garbage in roadside areas. This, in turn, makes the life harsher and is exposed to the ambiance for a long period.

Water-logging in Guwahati is attributed to different factors, and plastic is one of the most significant ones of them.  It is glaringly visible in Guwahati as to how plastic clogs drains. Drains in Guwahati are mostly found choked with garbage, besides soil from the city hills plastic is found to do the mischief. This notorious contribution of plastic to the condition in the city meets every eye every now and then. Apart from what meets the eye, plastic has many other effects that spell doom for city life. This is because plastic does not decompose into the soil, and thus it does the mischief by blocking drains and damaging the soil texture, including its fertility. Guwahati produces around 500 metric tonnes (MT) of garbage daily and around 20 percent of it is plastic. Such plastics or polythene bags either clog drain or go simply to the dumping sites. Since they do not get dissolved in the soil, they do the damage.

In every corner, waterside, roadside, tons of garbage assembled to be clean by someone unknown. Some closing nose, some saying slang words, some blaming and some littering passing by the way, but no one dares to take an oath to never litter the environment and educate others. Even the so-called educated people are seen doing the same instead of making people aware. And voiceless animals, especially the stray animals suffer from dangerous disease eating those waste product.

In one side of the picture, India is growing, developing, recognized worldwide and in another side of the picture, people are seen spitting here and there, urinating in the public place, throwing garbage at the public place, littering the surrounding, creating an unsound dirty society. What are we really trying to prove by not obeying the basic rules of life?

Before blaming others, let’s question our self; can’t we simply change our self? Can’t we promise to keep our surrounding clean? Is it only the responsibility of government? Why ever seen the past till today our mentally has not changed? Do you think India is achieving
